A girl meets a boy. The girl is fun-spirited, imaginative and a dreamer. The Boy is attractive, meticulous and cautious. They fall in love at a writing retreat, disguising their original names and personification. It seems like a fairy tale romance – jumping off the cliffs, making some pebble -towers at the beach and a clinging to each other like a magnet.

Eva’s idea of love is not concocted by an ideal image but to follow a missed heartbeat when you glance at your Mr. Right or just go by your instincts. For her, online dating is regressive when it comes to love and she has been deceived once. So, when she meets Mr. Anonymous at the retreat, her nerves become unsettled, her stomach starts churning and she feels an almost indispensible attraction towards him.

However, as they settle in their day to day living, they are acquainted to each other’s behavioural tendencies. From her agglomerative nature to collect rescue belongings to his unfathomable passion for geeky pieces of art is a total deal breaker. He fights hard to adjust to the repeated misconducts of her outlandish and uncouth dog, and she gives every bone of her body to bond with his deadpan and unwelcoming parents. Eventually, it makes them realize that love is withstanding each other’s choices happily and not vehemently snarl at obscurities.

My first read of Sophie Kinsella has been a pleasurable experience. The conversations in the book seem real and witty. The way Eva traverses from one chunk of thought to another makes you laugh at some spots in the book.  The emotions portrayed are plausible ranging from insecurity to longing, pretentiousness to vulnerability, indignation to acceptance.  Nothing soothing like a good love story- “Love Your Life” has that effect on you.

Take Away

“Love your life” is about your life and the life of the person you love. They are not oblivious to each other. We meet someone, fall in love but forget that it’s not the face that we have to live with but the entire spectrum of his/her living. The love of Eva and Matt is beautifully captured with subtle nuances of humour, unpalatable battles of acceptance and finally a love so strongly guarded by impetus and reassurance.

A free spirited , imaginative and a dreamer meets a meticulous and an attractive boy. They both meet at a writer’s retreat and instantly connect. Yes, that’s the book plot . sounds predictable but turned out to be an interesting read.
Perfect book for an ideal weekend. Sophia Kinsella through her writing sheds light on every aspect of our mundane lives such as friendships , emotions, jealousy , insecurity , family pride and self exploration in a humorous way
