COVID 19 – SELF- RELIANT TO SELF -SURVIVAL

Covid is a nasty bug, a notorious traveller, niggling havoc in the nourishment nest of the human body. It has taken an overwhelming leap from being a pandemic to an end-demic – where end seems inevitable, death comes as an infallible bullet invading the forbidden territories, insanity lurks as grief grows stronger and ashes of the long lost propel to come back with vengeance. The reality is we have been bedevilled by the horrendous turn of events, as the 2nd wave is draconian enough to assimilate the horror of perching with a behemoth.

The 1st wave of covid-19 predisposed us to be self-reliant but aghast!! It turned out to be self-denial of the propensity of the belligerent virus to feast on the human abode. The self-reliant awareness campaign or the “AatmaNirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan” was promulgated by our dear Prime Minister, but the misbegotten policies to tackle the catastrophe were like effluents going down the drain. What we now need is survival—not survival of the fittest but survival of who can breathe more. Let’s understand the two concepts broadly—Self- reliant is optimum utilization of resources indigenously and self-survival is holding the fort in spite of scarcity of resources.

Covid reached the apogee in April-May 2021 with unprecedented deaths, people asphyxiating for life and dead bodies conspicuously floating in the holy Ganges, and our so called self-reliant government was callously watching. People wandering for oxygen cylinders and ICU beds were met with despair, dejection and distress. They resorted to Facebook and Instagram to voice their vulnerability and people came in hordes to help the crestfallen. The debilitated spirit and the sunken faces of those who lost their loved ones is a crude question that needs to be answered by the high-end leaders whose decision making ability was so pusillanimously contorted.  An unneccary gaffe that could have been stalled unblemished!!

We all accept this fact that Covid is here to stay, and further mutations could be aggressively virulent. We now need to concentrate on survival. The medical fraternity contemplates a third wave with kids at the gunshot. Before fusillades of shots ambush the very young lot, we need to fortify the fort with imperatives. Children should continue to study online to avoid the imperil. There should be abundant stock of important medicines easily accessible and nominally priced. A bank of oxygen cylinders should be created for timely procurement to save lives. Vaccination holds the key and effort should be made to inoculate every single family member.  Shashi Tharoor, Thiruvananthapuram MP, urges the government to make vaccines available free of cost. I corroborate this decision as the rural population and people with low income bracket will be reluctant to the vaccination process as for them money symbolizes need, and still a lot needs to be educated on Covid depredations.

The lessons we have learnt should not go in vain. It should act as a catalyst to concoct well-orchestrated plans to vanquish the 3rd wave.Rate this item:1.002.003.004.005.00Submit Rating
