As the clock strucks five, a day commences with a resonating chime
The teacher—her mission to educate and inspire finally comes alive
Oh! How to forget the husbands and kids we take care
The piles of breakfast and lunch to prepare,
Armed with a bag of wisdom
Minds are nurtured for our students to blossom
The corridors brimming with ebullient smiles and radiant faces
Fill our hearts with joy in these cherished spaces,
In classroom as a gentle glow we stand
‘Let’s fold our hands for the morning prayer’ we command
To soothe a crying child and make their troubles hush
We placate them just like a mother’s touch,
Learning concepts hand in glove
Fractions pounce on decimals, the ubiquitous nouns and pronouns glee at each other
Bolstering confidence is our duty
Yes, to create fledgling professionals is performed with beauty,
Enmeshed with our own personal challenges
We continue to provide you our indefatigable support
While teaching you the right code of conduct
Alas!! Laryngitis strikes us with a great impact,
Yet, Honesty, discipline, kindness and respect we continue to instill
But, why have you deviated from the path to learn these skills?
Outdoor activities were once the halcyon days
Laughter’s filled the open space in many ways
Now smartphones and social media now hold sway
Can screens replace an educators guiding way?
It’s important to distinguish between right and wrong
Then why brandish our knowledge which is so strong?
Aware about the way world works
Then why say ‘Don’t talk like a teacher’ with a smirk?
In our reprimanding is your growth
Then why are parents and students so full of loath?
Though the faith in us sometimes dwindles
But, remember we are a community that never swindles.
