Review By Harsimran Kaur
The formidable ‘William Warwick’ and the enfant terrible ‘Ross Hogan’ are back with another reticulated revue of truth and betrayal. Jeffery Archer is ritzy in his new story rave-up, a rondo of magnetism from the previous six series. ‘Archer’ is bullish and cogent as always in a make-belief that perfidy is a persistent human tendency often in danger but an opportune marvel of certitude.
William Warwick is living with his wife ‘Beth’ and his twins. Ross is on a vacation with the new found love ‘Alice’ and his daughter ‘Jojo’; both unaware of the cliffhanger in cogitate behind the curtains that will unfold as a coup de grace.
Miles Faulkner still lives on the fallacious belief to turn the bushes into a hedgerow, and as condescending as it sounds, his pummeling politicking with the lawyer accomplice Booth Watson is like a toughened glass not easily broken. The prodigious thriller, ‘An Eye for an Eye’ by Jeffery Archer is a contrapuntal splendor.
The Battlement…
‘The Fair copy of Declaration’ still resides with the ‘Hartley’ family. It was written by Thomas Jefferson in 1787 to Simon Hartley’s long gone ancestor David Hartley MP. It contains a proviso which must be adhered to as instructed by Simon’s dying father; to be returned to the American Government, to their people, to appreciate the courage and struggles of their founding fathers.
However, Simon has an important task ahead before he returns the Jefferson’s Declaration. As the chairman of the Kestrals Bank, he is to lead the British delegation to negotiate the highly controversial arms deal with Saudi Arabia.
The ‘Black Prince’, the son of the Defense Minister of Saudi Arabia has some other plans. The Lebanese agent, ‘Hani Khalil’ appears as the only viable turf to crack the deal, behaving in sentience to let the French Swivel out of the deal; only if Simon were to realize what a scourge Khalil is? What follows is a murder, an incarceration that makes Britain rebound on the sinister activities brewing behind the closure of the arms deal.
The only withered leaf to fall off the branch is Simon. He is surrounded by pejoratives; the despicable betrayal by Khalil and the incongruity imposed by the Governor. Will Simon be able to convey the British Ambassador of his innocence or the solitude behind the iron bars will be his permanent sanctuary?
In Britain, another hoax is finding a palliative glee. Along with consuming hatred for Beth and the concomitant revenge, Miles Faulkner has another plan up his sleeve; to let Lady Hartley disintegrate with the coveted Constable’s ‘The old Mill at Bucklebury’ and the confounding, ‘The Fair Copy of Declaration’. It is now to be seen if Miles in contrivance is able to make millions out of the deceit or Lady Hartley turns out to be the cat chasing the mice?
The Reflection….
‘An Eye for an Eye’ is full of twist and turns and promises to be eccentrically gripping and at times a raffish retribution. The rivalry between Miles and Warwick continues. ‘Ross Hogan’, in certitude, wants Miles behind the bars. What now lies like a stiff joint?
- Will the indictment of Simon turn Khalil to brew insidious claims to fracture the deal?
- To what length Simon will go to become indissoluble and escape with impunity?
William and Ross have a perfect stratagem in place to travel to Riyadh in Saudi Arabia to put the apocryphal lie under rest and fix the crevice of perfidy and impugned characterization. Will they be able to stall the invidious sale of the ‘declaration’ and the same be returned to the American Government?
There are some distorted angles that must be joined by William and Ross; their actions now to be roasted in pastiche of scared consanguinity.
