FREEDOM THEN AND NOW

FREEDOM THEN AND NOW

By Sunaina Luthra  ON  Aug 14, 2023

A nation so vast and rich

Was once wounded by colonial oppression

In the midst of the tyrannical rule

Aspired for a new identity

Determined to turn a new leaf of its history

Hence , embarked a journey towards freedom

Blood, sacrifices,   conflagration of mass protest

An incessant walk on the path of civil disobedience and non-cooperation

Lead to an uproar

  Feeling of nationalism united all

Freedom, a fervent desire of the nation

     The cornerstone of democracy

An essence of life for all to thrive

Finally blossomed at the stroke of the midnight hour

Freedom, a vibrant string of happiness and purpose

Has its meaning   changed with time?

Like shifting sands in hourglass of life

             Freedom, now a fundamental desideratum

Once aimed for a just and an equitable society

Has now sown the seeds of doubt bringing an acrimonious dispute

Leaving ‘We the people of India’

In a search of refuge

Freedom, once meant for empowering women

Has crippled her curiosity and made her every moment devious

Freedom, is meant to propel us to make bold choices

Why has it flooded the minds with angry bursts of self-riotous?

Freedom that accelerated the process of globalization and liberalization

Has devoured a world full of contradictions and challenges

Freedom, is meant to educate all

But   clouded minds now dispense ego and vanity

It’s time to gather what lays scattered

Go though the lessons of tolerance and egalitarianism once again

That faded away

From the corners of our mind

For freedom to be seen as  a matter of pride.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY
