GURU GOBIND SINGH—A WARRIOR, A PHILOSOPHER AND A LITERARY DOYEN BY HARSIMRAN KAUR

GURU GOBIND SINGH—A WARRIOR, A PHILOSOPHER AND A LITERARY DOYEN BY HARSIMRAN KAUR

The Lord had a plan
To spread ‘Dharma’ and propagate a ‘Path’
In the burdock mountains fanned by large spear of clouds
Sat a sage ‘Dusht Daman’ in meditation around water clouts!

The ‘House of Hemkunt’ found a new rigor
The Lord ordered in sublime tenacity
‘Spread the spirit of righteousness and dutiful path’
Then was born Govind Rai – the philosopher and mighty warrior
To awaken the creation to the life’s charioteer!

He who fought the Mughal tyranny with aplomb
Reprehensible in his eyes were the dystopic invasions and pogroms
Had he a filth in his eyes, he would have drawn magical spears
Incantations eluded him
The benevolence of the ‘One’ was the only halberd gear!

Reprobation of the cynical reformed his grit
Intolerable was their wit to take his repartee
Thus came down their risqué, implacable and unworthy!

The battle of Chamkaur was a serpent deleteriously prod
To create havoc by the Mughal wrath

Anandpur Sahib became a dilapidated ruin
Arpeggio sung with a perfidious tune!

The Mughal desperados nibbled the four sons
Two martyred and two bricked alive
The inner conflict was no more a scourge
Gobind let the ignominious know
When righteousness is challenged
Let the sword flow!

He called himself the dust of ‘One’s’ feet
A slave to the creator
‘Don’t call me God’, he adamantly forayed a speech
For all of you will fall in a pit of hell, devilish and deep!

‘Khalsa’ – the spirit of Sacrifice and Dharma
Awakened an identity; formidable and distinct
The ‘Path’ unequivocally set precedence
That the Sikhs of Guru Gobind have brought to fruition!
