Rating: 4/5

The book takes us to the luxurious retirement village of Coppers Chase nestled amidst picturesque landscape of English countryside. It is home for four cunning yet sleuth pensioners; former spy Elizabeth Best, scrupulous nurse Joyce Meadow craft, Ibrahim who is a sagacious psychiatrist adept in deciphering human mind and finally a fearless union organizer Ron Ritchie. They are allegedly part of the unconventional ‘The Thursday Murder Club’ as they solve complex unresolved crimes.

These heinous crimes rest in the files of a former police officer and founding member of the club, Penny Gray. It’s their collective wisdom, wit and indomitable spirit that leads them to embark on a journey to solve chilling crimes.

On receiving the shocking news of the murder of their close friend, Kuldesh Sharma ‘The Thursday Murder Club’ once again takeon the mantle to find the murderer. As the investigation intensifies, they discover a strong connection between Kuldesh’s murder and a wooden box containing life -threatening drugs that he was trying to protect. The investigation further exposes a complex network of drug dealers and unravels an entangled web of this criminal activity.

Who are the suspects?

Is it the cocaine dealer Dominic Holt and Mitch Maxwell along with their companions Luca Buttaci and Connie Johnson responsible for Kuldesh’s murder? Or the antique shop owner Samantha Barnes and her husband Garth? Another person to stew her own grime is Nina Mishra, an old friend of Kuldesh, who finds herself to be the last person in contact with him.

With suspects increasing, it seems that that the elusive murderer is still on the prowl. Time is surely running out for this courageous team to solve the mystery as trail of evidence is disappearing.

My literary spotlight is once again a new thriller by Richard Osman- ‘The Last Devil to Die’ the latest addition to ‘The Thursday Murder Club’ series. The flavor of this season I guess are books baffling us with intriguing mystery, full of pulse racing action and riveting adventure with a little pinch of emotions making it a complete page turner, and adding to our enthralling reading experience.

‘The Last Devil to Die’ is an engaging and a fast-paced thriller. Osman through his narration challenges the presumption that old age hinders us from engaging in certain dangerous activities by displaying the protagonists of the book – the four Septuagenarians—fiercely independent, resourceful and brave.
