To calm the maelstroms– A Duty’s call!!

To calm the maelstroms– A Duty’s call!!

By Sunaina Luthra

As rain water swirls and drains

Impeding traffic web ensnares

In an endless frustrated refrain

We experience it with awe

A city halted by infrastructure flaw.

Mountains once titans, now tremble

By the vulnerable immense weight

Threatened by landslides’ deadly embrace

Is it ‘Global Warming?’

That we are in shambles.

Heinous crimes against women; a growing stain

A recalcitrant blot that refuses to fade

Perpetuating an endless night

Adding to each victim’s plight

Safety for women now a distant dream

   Our paths continue to

Remain bound and chained.

The mighty Yamuna, once pristine and pure

Now a polluted shrine flowing in distress

Is choked with immense waste

Grand plans that promise revival

Are they just designed to adorn

Headlines and manifestos?

Now, constantly fade away like silent storms.

While autumn arrives before winter’s gentle thrill

The nip in the air once a balm for summer’s swill

Now carries toxins our lungs must bear

Marking, ‘Pollution Break’ with a flair.

What can I presume?

When news -breaks loud and fierce

‘25 of 75 Ranthambore tigers vanish in a year’

Is it really what we want to hear?

Our national pride lies entombed

Leaving no trace, so perished and doomed.

Taxes above taxes; a never- ending spin

As prices soar and wages shrink

A chosen few feel the burden of the state

While others drift through, oblivious to fate.

An amalgam of hidden political games,

Insouciant human ways

And lapses in justice and flawed foundation

Issues I felt need be addressed!

These modern- day adversities

We face each day

Our also our own creations

Leading us astray

In quite deeds and values sown

Keeping commitment to sewing responsibilities

This is all it takes.

Guided by purpose and what’s right

Let’s in still and nurture for future to be secure

In every heart, duty must endure.
